Lisa Alter and Katie Baron Named to New York Metro “Super Lawyers” and “Rising Stars” Lists for 2021

Lisa Alter and Katie Baron were recently selected to the New York Law Journal’s 2021 “Dealmakers of the Year,'' a distinguished list that profiles the most prominent and hardworking transactional attorneys in New York. Lisa and Katie will be recognized in an upcoming issue of Professional Excellence magazine and honored on October 13th at the New York Legal Awards ceremony taking place in New York City.

Lisa Alter recently participated in a panel entitled “The Terminators” for Billboard Pro’s Spotlight series “Creators and Copyright,” which aired May 14, 2021. During the webinar, Lisa and her fellow panelists discussed copyright termination, a complicated feature of U.S. copyright law that allows creators to terminate a grant of copyright.
Lisa Alter was recently asked by Fast Company to comment on the rise of songwriting catalog deals in the industry. “Some of the more aggressive players have raised the bar in terms of pricing, speed of closing—it’s become a very intense business,” said Lisa. “Going back a number of years, these deals could drag on for months. We are just in a boom in the business.”
Influence Media Partners, a music and entertainment fund with an emphasis on female artists and songwriters, has acquired a portfolio of select copyrights from the catalog of Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Julia Michaels. The deal includes the pop writer’s publishing stake in songs performed by Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and more.
